Friends of Comedy

Commencing as a singular event in 2010, initially featuring novice comedians among friends, Friends of Comedy has organically matured into a Toronto institution. Friends of Comedy is now a full service events management and entertainment consulting company, lead by my friend Marcello Vattiata

Over the last decade, Friends of Comedy has hosted 100+ shows with over 50 comedians and thousands in attendance, all in the city of Toronto.

The challenge

Friends of Comedy needed a website that could capture the energy of live comedy, seamlessly promote upcoming shows, and streamline ticket bookings through redirection.
All while ensuring a fun, intuitive user experience. This is the first ever website of the business so there was no pre determined template or benchmark to work with.

The solution

I designed and developed a custom, high-performance website that prioritized user experience, speed, and conversion

  • Engaging, dynamic UI that reflects the brand’s playful personality and engaging copy to keep the readers hooked.
  • Seamless event and ticketing redirection during show promotions for hassle-free bookings.
  • SEO-optimized, mobile-first design to maximize reach and discoverability.
  • Lightweight, high-speed architecture to keep visitors engaged without delays, with instagram feed integration.

The Result

  • 90% Score on Google Lighthoure for Performance, 96% for accessibility and 100%  for SEO.
  • Faster aster load times leading to a smoother user experience.
  • Increased ticket sales through a more intuitive booking flow.
  • Higher engagement & retention with a vibrant, easy-to-navigate design.

The Learning

Working on Friends of Comedy highlighted the importance of designing for emotion-driven experiences. Comedy is all about connection, timing, and tone—so the site needed to reflect that same energy without overwhelming users. I learned how to balance bold visuals with clean usability, creating a site that feels fun, yet remains intuitive and conversion-focused.

This project was a great reminder that the best websites aren’t just functional—they’re felt.
